When I was 8 years old, my parents let me watch the Grammy Awards. My life was forever changed. Until then, I only knew classical music — the songs I had plunked out on a piano for year upon year.
But when I heard pop music, I knew it was my passion and that I had to make it. This catapulted me into a life of singing along with the radio in my bedroom, learning bass, and eventually writing my own songs.
Singing didn’t come naturally to me thought. My voice was breathy, and it tired out easily. So when I was 19, I took vocal lessons, and these changed my life.
Two years late,r I got a worldwide record deal with Mercury Records, and a year after that i was touring the world with David Bowie.
If a girl from the countryside of Ontario Canada, can find her way onto the biggest stages of the world with her idols, you can too. It all starts with the voice and a love for music.
